The 18 person team took home 7 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze medals. The junior team finished 1st overall in the point standing. The team is coached by Shane Weaver, who owns and operates Red Griffin Martial Arts Studio in Grimsby. "After taking the summer off, it was nice to see our team was still ready to compete" Weaver said. "It was a pleasant start to our season" he added. In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitors use body position, escapes and submissions to win their fights. Competitors can either make their opponent give up through submission or dominate the fight and win on points. For Team Griffin the Gold medal winners were James Johnston, Stephen Seljan, Lucas Head, Sienna Lalonde, Ace Milner , Chelsey Sicard and Laura Franciosa. Matthew Seljan, Matthew Lalonde, Tony Miljan TSSA Member and Andrew Brons took Silver. While Heather Kiteley, Connor Schmidt, Kim Puddicombe and Darrin Van Roon took home the Bronze. Dylan Head also received the "Fighter of the Day" for his dominating performance in the feather weight division. Team Griffin has a busy season planned with tournaments scheduled in London, Hamilton, Toronto and even a few in the United States.
